Paramount TV Studios and Anonymous Content are teaming up to create the hour-long drama series based off the original novels by Laura Ingalls Wilder. The books were adapted into a hit television show once before, which aired on NBC from 1974 to 1982. Now, decades later, Trip Friendly—whose father, Ed Friendly, bought the TV and movie rights to the Little House on the Prairie novels—is expected to serve as an executive producer on the upcoming project.

Katherine MacGregor as Harriet Oleson

Bateman has been married to Amanda Anka, daughter of crooner Paul Anka, since 2001. Prior to the show, she appeared in popular series like All in the Family and Ironside. After Little House on the Prairie, she returned to theater and mentored young actors before retiring in the early 2000s. Gilbert left Hollywood at 18 to attend business school and now works as a stockbroker in New York, according to his sister’s memoir.

The book also describes other farm work duties and events, such as the birth of a calf; the availability of milk, butter and cheese; gardening; field work; hunting; gathering; and more. When Pa went into the woods to hunt, he usually came home with a deer and then smoked the meat for the coming winter. One day he noticed a bee tree and returned from hunting early to get the wash tub and milk pail to collect the honey. This reflects the time period in the 1800s during which farmers and many others were migrating westward into the American frontier. Written by Laura Ingalls Wilder, the book is autobiographical, though some parts of the story were embellished or changed to appeal more to an audience, such as Laura's age. In the book, Laura herself turns five years old, when the real-life author had only been three during the events of the book.

They find that some of their old classmates are very successful, but wealth doesn’t necessarily equal happiness or a good marriage. And both Caroline and Charles are propositioned by former married classmates. Sadly the ranch suffered a major fire a couple of years back so none of the original Little House structures still stand.

In 2023, the actor and director launched Let's Be Clear with Shannen Doherty, a podcast that reflects on her life and career. “I wanted to be clear about what it was like for me to work with Michael Landon on Little House, what it was like to work with Wilford Brimley on Our House, to talk about the days. What was it like to be on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine when you're in your early twenties?

Alison Arngrim played Nellie Oleson, a bully and main rival of Laura Ingalls. Initially auditioning for Laura and Mary, she ultimately played Nellie for seven seasons. Melissa Gilbert started acting at a young age and was cast as Laura Ingalls Wilder at 9 years old. She starred on the show for 10 years and her performance earned her a Golden Globe nomination. The show's lasting charm lies in the ensemble cast who brought the characters of Walnut Grove to life. From the unwavering wisdom of Michael Landon's Charles “Pa” Ingalls to Melissa Gilbert's endearing portrayal of Laura, each actor contributed to the show’s legacy.

The majority of the interior shots were filmed on a sound stage at Paramount Studios but if you're going to film a TV show set in the prairie of the 1800s, you need a solid location for all of the outdoor shots. Did you know that despite taking place in Minnesota, the show was actually filmed outside of Los Angeles, California? Now, the package — which includes Martha Marcy May Marlene filmmaker Sean Durkin, who is attached to direct, and the script by Abi Morgan — is setting up shop under the Melrose Ave. watertower. Some of the episodes written by Michael Landon were recycled storylines from ones that he had written for Bonanza.

"I had a whole spiritual journey for maybe 20 years, I’ve worked in finance on Wall Street, lived in Manhattan for a long time," Gilbert, 56, says. Arngrim, 62, has written a best-selling book, "Confessions of a Prairie Bitch" (which is a must-read for "Little House" fans) and has turned the book into a one-woman show. Sidney Greenbush, 53, had not been back to Big Sky Ranch since she left the show. “It feels like when you go to your childhood home and you haven’t lived there for a long time and there’s a certain familiarity that comes back,” she says.

"I tell people sometimes that I didn’t grow up in the 1970s. I grew up in the 1870s. It’s who I am. That experience shaped me in a huge way as a professional, certainly, but also as a person. I don’t know who I would have been if I hadn’t had that show." Well, ‘Little House on the Prairie’ has not been filmed in Minnesota like its setting. The city of Simi Valley, nestled in the eponymous valley boasts of one of the nation’s lowest crime rates.

Some plots also include subjects such as drug addiction (e.g. Albert's addiction to morphine), leukemia, child abuse, animal abuse, and even rape.
